One of the hidden gems of the Royal Mile. Found out about this place during one of the walking tours through Edinburgh. It's one of the oldest preserved buildings in the whole city and definitely worth visiting. Because the place isn't so well-known I happened to be the only one visitor and had the luxury to explore the house completely on my own with the provided guide pamphlet. Inside you can find what was it like to live in Edinburgh around 16th-17th century with many historic artefacts presented. One of my personal highlights on the display is the visitor book from 1853 (when the house already became a museum). Obviously, the gem of the house is the wooden ceiling that was painted a couple centuries ago and is very well preserved. A minor detail but a very pleasant one is that there are chairs you can seat in imagining your time travel back in time. To immersion significantly adds prerecorded audios which are activated by motion near the chimneys. Definitely recommend visiting.
