What a beautiful hotel, oldie worldy & the aroma when you walk in is amazing, sort of sandalwood greetings & the ambience absolutely beautiful. However, I wanted room service, I could get the menu up on the QR code, I had to go downstairs & get one, totally defeats the point of wanting 'room service' which I was informed not 24/7 but, the 'chef' had pre-prepared food in a glass jar, the receptionist heated it up in a microwave & served it..nice! I've been home for two days and still waiting for the hotel to send someone to my room & fix the air-con/heater!! It was so cold I had to open the window to get some heat in!! Ridiculous, really for a "4 star" hotel the bathroom/toilet was disgusting, decor falling & holes in the walls etc. Not good enough by 4 star standards! Ashame really as it was lovely. Thank you for reading my rant!

De kamer was niet klaar op tijd en de bediende kon onze koffer niet meer vinden. De bediende aan de receptie zei dat de kamer niet betaald was en dat ik opnieuw moest betalen!Eindelijk kon ik bewijzen dat het in orde was.Onmogelijk om een bad te nemen:een stuk van het bad was kapot en er was geen warm water. Onmogelijk om de receptie op te bellen .Het geluid van de TV werkte niet. Bovendien waren de eieren , het spek en de worsten van het ontbijt koud!!! Afschuwelijke ervaring!!!

We were assigned an accessible junior suite though we didn't request an accessible room.. The bathroom was half finished and the wiring was not completed with the switches for the separate toilet and bath located in the doorway. There were signs pasted on the door to the toilet and the door to the shower stating that the hotel offered its apologies for the inconvenience! There was a workman's support pole found under the sinks which had to be removed by the technician when we complained. There was not a single hook, clothes stand, towel rack or rail anywhere in the bathroom, toilet or room. The hotel staff explained that they would send a technician a second time to drill hooks in the bathroom, we didn't bother since we were staying only 2 nights and didn't want the dust. The shower glass in the shower stall could not contain water within the stall and the floor became wet after we showered. Location wise the hotel is perfect and the staff were polite. Breakfast was a mix of hot cooked food and the usual cold cuts, cheeses, breads, yoghurt, fruits and juices. The breakfast room changes to a bar at night which serves affordable and nice cocktails.

Only stayed one night, but all very good. If there was a very good option, I would have chosen that, so more than good, but not excellent! Definitely use the Carlton again if I'm staying in Lille.
